Parental Support

At West Jesmond our Inclusion team are always available to work with our families to offer additional pastoral and home support and advice. 
 
If you feel you or your child would benefit from speaking to or working with any of the team, please contact the school office to make an appointment and they will arrange a time to meet you. 
Emma Clark

Family Support Officer

I can offer families a varity of help and support, including:

* Support to children and families to address issues that impact on attendance
* Referals to appropriate agencies to offer further support, such as Early Help, Family Partners, National Centre for Domestic Violence, Mental Health services, Pathways, food banks and fuel poverty support
* Advice around sibling relationships
* Sleep routine advice
* Internet safety
* Behaviour support
* Bereavement support
* Signposting to a variety of different parenting classes such as, ESOL Maths and English courses and ESOL English as an additional language courses

I work in school on Fridays but you can contact the office at any time and I will call you back or arrange for you to come into school to meet me.

Jacqui Nicholson

Extended Services Lead

My role is to provide holistic, tailored support to children and families, whilst working closely with the rest of the Inclusion Team. This could come in the form of emotional, wellbeing or behaviour support. This support could be a short-term intervention or specific longer-term sessions with children.

My aim is to work in partnership with school staff and parents to facilitate consistency of approach to wellbeing both at home and at school. I can provide support for children in school around:
* Emotional Regulation
* Anxiety
* Bereavement
* Resilience

I also oversee the outside lunchtime experience for children and endeavour to provide a positive play environment for all. This gives me opportunity to interact with all the children on a regular basis.

In addition to this I manage the Breakfast Club & After School Club here at West Jesmond.

I am based in The Nest, which is located in the Rainbow Room, available Monday to Friday. I can be contacted by email (above) or via the school office.

Verity Groot

Bilingual and EAL Lead

I can offer families a variety of help and support, including:

* welcoming new families and supporting children with English as an additional language in their settling phase
* to navigate different language use models in multilingual households
* to understand the English school system and curriculum
* to support families in creating language rich home environments
* to organise interpreters for meetings if necessary
* to signpost to community groups
* to signpost to English classes and advice on qualification conversions
* to attend school meetings and workshops with parents

Cathy Hogan

Inclusion Lead and SENCo

My role is to promote inclusion throughout the school, coordinate the provision for pupils with SEND, advise and support staff and ensure our SEND policy is implemented across the school.
I work closely with families and a range of external professionals to ensure our children are supported to achieve and enjoy during their time at our school.

Miss Gemma Jordan

Assistant SENCo

I work alongside Mrs Hogan to work with children and families across school. My main focus this year will be to support the children and families in Reception where there is a need for SEND provision. As part of this, I will work with staff and external professionals to ensure the appropriate support is given, allowing all of the children to get the best start to their education so that they are happy, settled and able to achieve.
